Fingerprint entry at the gate: the Kaadas R8GD

The R8GD is built around two fingerprint readers, one on the outside body for entry and one on the inside body for exit. That second reader is the detail that changes daily life. Leaving the unit no longer means finding the remote or the key; you touch the reader on the way out and the gate releases.

The lock stores 20 fingerprints. In practice that covers a household plus the regular people who need to get in: a part-time helper, a grandparent who visits often, a trusted neighbour. Face recognition and camera monitoring at the gate: the Kaadas R9KFV

The R9KFV takes a different approach. It puts 3D face recognition on the gate, so the moment you walk up, the gate recognises you and opens. No hand free, no fingerprint, no PIN. For a parent carrying a child or a grandparent who finds fingerprint readers fiddly, this is the difference between a smooth entrance and a stalled one.

Face recognition is one of six entry methods on the R9KFV. The others are fingerprint (the same Sweden FPC sensor, 20 fingerprints), PIN code (10 users plus a single one-time PIN), RFID card (up to 100), the Kaadas Smart App and a mechanical key. Exit is by fingerprint, remote or mechanical key.

Batteries and backup at the gate

The two locks are powered differently, and it is worth knowing which you are signing up for.

The R8GD runs on four AA alkaline batteries. Kaadas recommends checking and replacing batteries roughly every six months as best practice, and the lock warns you when power is running low. Keep a spare set in the drawer and the lock will never surprise you.

The R9KFV asks for more of its battery. Face recognition, a WiFi connection that is always on and a camera watching the corridor all draw more power than a fingerprint reader does, and the lock is rated for three to four months per charge. Kaadas designs around that rather than leaving you to manage it. The battery is a high-capacity rechargeable lithium unit, so there are no disposables to buy and none going to landfill. Treat the charge interval as a service interval rather than a countdown: a household of five with people in and out all day will recharge more often than a couple who leave in the morning and come back at night. Either gate lock can be the first half of a synced entrance.
